Hospitality Management

HTMi Australia offers a unique program combining the nationally recognised SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management and the HTMi Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management in multiple locations across Australia. It will deliver all the required units of competency in the nationally recognised SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management supplemented by units of study from HTMi Switzerland’s Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management. On successful completion of this program, students will graduate with two separate qualifications.

The two-year course offers opportunities for students to take part in one five-month paid internship* opportunity each year with AccorHotels where they can apply their practical skills in live situations.

On the successful completion of the Diploma, students have the opportunity to pathway into The Hotel School’s Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.

This unique offering supported by AccorHotels will provide exclusive opportunities for students to prepare for exciting careers in the rapidly growing global hospitality industry.

The course starts in February, June and October. The course involves 6 sessions of 13 weeks each with scheduled holiday breaks, including two (2) internships of approximately 440 hours per internship.

The course duration is based on a minimum of 15 scheduled course contact hours per week. In addition, participants are expected to undertake approximately 5 hours of self-directed study per week during session time.

Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane campuses

Delivery of this course will be through a flexible, blended delivery model of classroom-based learning and with up to 30% additional self-paced learning required.

Payment plans available

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Internships with AccorHotels

An internship is a period of observing, learning, and practicing in a business environment, where students are given the opportunity to integrate theory with the practice
and responsibility of the workplace. HTMi Australia students will have the opportunity to complete their internship at an AccorHotels property within Australia, providing them with practical experience by exposing them to general systems of operation, as well as to the philosophies and aims of the hotel*.

Students will have the opportunity to ‘learn and earn’ through paid operational roles within the Food & Beverage, and Housekeeping departments. Opportunities to gain experience within non-operational roles will also be available within the Human Resources, Revenue, Sales & Marketing, and Finance departments in an unpaid capacity. Current rates of pay for operational roles range from $23.64 to $28.37** per hour and on average, students can earn $11,000 over each internship

Potential earnings when not on Industry Placement (IP) is based on $25.00 per hour (gross minimum wage before tax) for a minimum of 440 hours per 1 term. Each IP figure is based on $25.00 per hour multiplied by the hours stated above. Students may have the opportunity to work more IP hours than stated, and on average undergraduate and postgraduate students work 440 hours on their IP. Minimum wages outlined in the National Workplace Relations system are reviewed by Fair Work Australia annually. Please note Australian students are not limited to working 20 hours per week.
